I’ve chosen to invest. I just bought another D-Box Home Theater chair, and will do my best to advocate for the platform in order to increase consumer demand. Although all the components of a home theater system work together to bring enjoyment of the experience, nothing in my setup brings me more exhilaration than my D-Box chair. Total game changer. There is time for better long-term solution to emerge, and I hope we will get there.
Is this the End of D-Box?
Perhaps change the business model to scale the subscription service? Get more butts in seats, that increases subscriptions. Break even on the tech, perhaps a make a bit in the black on the margins. If the world bought 100,000 more D-box chairs, D-Box would not need to hire a single additional coder. I certainly would not “enjoy” being charged more for the subscription service, but I would gladly pay more than we are now. Especially if it means we get access to new content in perpetuity.
Hello Martin,
Yes, we will continue to support and maintain the apps that allow operation of the D-BOX haptic systems (Windows, Android, iOS) until we cease distribution of the haptic codes.
For now, only the forum part of D-BOX is moving to Discord. The catalogue website is remaining as-is. However, with technology advancing as rapidly as it is, it’s impossible for us to predict our future communication methods-- all we can promise is that we’ll continue to be transparent and do our best to evolve with them.
We will continue sending out newsletter, on a monthly basis from now on.
Marty,
I don’t know enough about their business model to judge, but I agree regarding your assessment of the marketing. I was blown away with some of the YouTube content coming out of CEDIA last year when some reputable Home Theater companies acted like they had never heard of D-Box before. My first reaction was to wonder how can a home theater integration company not know about D-Box, and blamed them for not being aware. But is that really all their fault?
I think it’s too bad that the benefits of D-Box are not as clearly “in the conversation” with other expensive gear like MadVR/Lumagen, Trinnov/Storm, Kaleidescape, and pick your favorite high end speakers, projector, etc. All great gear for sure, and worthy of our attention. But the almost complete lack of attention to the merits of D-Box is baffling. All those items have “diminishing returns” considerations versus lower price offerings. The only “diminishing returns” conversation with D-Box is whether to choose 2/3/4 actuators. Nothing else competes.
I have some of that high-end gear, and it’s great. But nothing else in my chain gives me more joy than that D-Box chair and the amazing content the motion artists and support Team at D-Box deliver.
Marty, moved over to the D-Box discord. epicenter-ht.
Marty, sent request to the DC Area Audiophile FB group. I accidentally referred to you as Marty McBloom though. My bad.
